How to Find All Tapes in Dying Light 2

Below you'll find a checklist for all the Tapes that you can find in Dying Light 2, including which district the Tape is in, and a step-by-step guide on how to access the Collectible's location.

The following Tapes can be found in the Old Villedor region of the game, including the districts of Houndfield, Quarry End, Trinity, and Horseshoe.

Quarry End Tape Locations

Tape 8: Journal of a Nightrunner 2

Quarry End - East (Quarry End Swimming Pool)

You need to climb the roof of the swimming pool to reach the Nightrunner's Hideout and tape. It's easiest to climb on the bus by the entrance to the ground floor, then jump to the roof. Head to the rest spot to find the Nightrunner's recording on top of the fridge, above a painting.

Tape 9: The City Classifieds - Baltazar

Quarry End - North (House With Electrified Floor)

The house containing this recording is located north of the Oak Windmill, near the border with Horseshoe. You will know you are in the right place if the floor is sparking with electricity. The tape can be found on the top floor of this building, on a wooden shelf beside some paint cans.

Trinity Tape Locations

Tape 1: Journal of a Nightrunner 1

Trinity - Middle (Cillian's Safe House)

You will visit Cillian's Safe House as part of the "Getting Stronger" Main Quest, but can come back at any time to collect the Tape placed under his TV, to the right of Cillian's bed. The building is located northwest of The Holy Trinity Metro Station.

Tape 2: Villedor Newscast 3

Trinity - Southwest (Rooftop School Settlement)

This Villedor Newscast Tape is located on a table, beside a globe, inside the Rooftop School Settlement. If this location isn't on your map, try activating a nearby Windmill.

Tape 3: Carl's Journal 3

Trinity - South (Bazaar)

Go inside the northern hallway near the Trader and Craftmaster at the back of the Bazaar to find the third entry in Carl's journal.

Tape 4: Carl's Journal 1

Trinity - South (Bazaar)

Head upstairs at the back of the Bazaar and take an immediate left. The Tape is on a log in this corner, near a red tank.

Tape 5: Carl's Journal 2

Trinity - South (Bazaar)

Walk to the sleeping bag at the rest spot once the last Tape has been found to locate Carl's second journal entry, on top of an upturned blue container.

Tape 6: The City Classifieds - Egg Hunting

Trinity - Southeast Corner (Pumpkin Farm Settlement)

The tape is on the middle table inside the Pumpkin Farm Settlement.

Tape 7: Tourist Office of Villedor - Old Villedor

Trinity - North (Trading Post Settlement)

You will find the recording on a shelf, inside the North Trading Post Settlement. If this location is not unlocked, try activating a nearby Windmill.

Tape 10: Carl's Journal 4

Trinity - South (Bazaar)

Aiden will have to climb the Bazaar as part of the "Missing Persons" Side Quest, but it can be scaled at any time as long as he has enough stamina. The tape is located about halfway up the northwestern tower of the Bazaar, in a wooden crate overlooking a zipline.

Tape 12: Tourism Office of Villedor - Church of the Holy Trinity

Trinity - Middle (The Holy Trinity Metro Station)

Go all the way to the bottom of the Metro Station to find this Tape in the middle of a shelf, near a UV light.

Tape 19: Turn on the Power

Trinity - North (House near Old Villedor Master Windmill)

This Collectible is easily obtainable during the "Revolution" Main Quest. You can pick up the Tape in the small house south of the Old Villedor Master Windmill, on a shelf with UV lights.

Tape 38: Cpt. Posner Status Report to Col. Williams 2

Trinity - Southwest (West of Rooftop School)

Climb up into the GRE tower to locate this tape on top of an open container in the corner. You can use the air vent on the ground to easily enter the tower with the paraglider Tool.

Houndfield Tape Locations

Tape 15: For Alice 1

Houndfield - Middle (Building West of Cherry Windmill)

The recording is located in a building just below the Cherry Windmill, to its west, on a desk with some dusty computer equipment.

Tape 16: GRE Head Doctor Dr. Katsumi Report 2

Houndfield - Middle (Center For Stage IV THV Study)

Dr. Katsumi's second report is located behind the first metal door in the GRE Quarantine Building, one floor down from the entrance.

Tape 17: Cpt. Posner Status Reports to Col. Williams 1

Houndfield - South (GRE Anomaly C-A-22)

This collectible is located in a tower overlooking the GRE Anomaly. Climb into the room to find the recording in the middle of a sleeping bag and green GRE chest. The lock on the box will need to be opened with a lockpick.

Tape 18: Journal of a Nightrunner 3

Houndfield - North (Nightrunner's Hideout)

This journal entry is located on top of a wooden crate at the Nightrunner's Hideout on top of Saint Joseph Hospital.

Tape 45: Unit 404 - Evacuation

Houndfield - North (Nightrunner's Hideout)

Obtained during the “Wall of Valor: Deadly Exchange” Side Quest picked up at the PK Floating Fortress.

Tape 63: For Alice 2

Houndfield - Middle (Northwest of GRE Anomaly C-A-22)

You can find this tape on the top floor of an apartment located slightly above the GRE Anomaly. The location is visited as part of the "Book Club 8" Side Quest, which is obtained in the Central Loop region.

Horseshoe Tape Locations

Tape 11: Cheatkins For Villedor

Horseshoe - North (Military Airdrop THB-17U)

This general location is visited as part of "The Raid" Main Quest, but the Tape can be obtained at any time. The recording is on a desk, on the top floor of the northern building where the Military Airdrop THB-17U is found.

Tape 13 - Tourism Office of Villedor - Horseshoe

Horseshoe - South (Horseshoe Water Tower)

Easily obtainable during the "Water Tower" Main Quest, but can be acquired at any point. The Tourism Office recording is located in the top room of the building on top of a wooden box beside the valve used to activate the facility.

Tape 14: GRE Head Doctor Dr. Katsumi Report 1

Horseshoe - Southeast (THV Genomics Center)

This recording is behind the first metal door of the GRE Quarantine Building, one floor down into the facility. It is opposite the GRE box containing an Inhibitor.

Below are all the locations for Tapes that you can find in the Central Loop area of Villedor, including the districts of Downtown, Garrison, New Dawn Park, Wharf, Muddy Grounds, Saint Paul Island, Lower Dam Ayre, and Newfound Lost Lands.

Downtown Tape Locations

Tape 20: The City Classifieds - Sex Ed in the Time of THV

Downtown - Northwest (Walnut Windmill)

After restoring power to the Walnut Windmill, look in the left corner to find the Tape inside a small box.

Tape 21: Journal of a Nightrunner 4

Downtown - South (Nightrunner's Hideout)

The Tape is above a painting at the southern Downtown Nightrunner's Hideout.

Tape 25: Be Fruitful and Multiply

Downtown - North (South of Bakery Settlement)

This Collectible is easiest to pick up as part of the "Welcome on Board" Main Quest. It is located just past a piano in the tall apartment complex, north of the GRE Anomaly.

Tape 39: GRE Head Doctor Dr. Katsumi Report 3

Downtown - Middle (GRE Vaccine Lab)

This tape is in the same room as the first Inhibitor of the GRE Quarantine Building, located in a GRE chest.

Tape 40: The Classifieds - The Cable Guy

Downtown - Middle (Carriers Guild)

You can find this recording beneath Driscoll at the Carriers Guild, accessed by a platform being held up by a crane outside the Downtown Court Metro Station.

Tape 41: For Alice 3

Downtown - East (East of GRE Anomaly)

This apartment building is visited as part of the "Undying Affection" Side Quest. It's the building Aiden climbs before paragliding into the office tower. The tape is on a desk on the third floor from the top.

Tape 51: SHTF Chef

Downtown - Northwest (North of Military Airdrop THB-M30)

The tape is by a small camp in the southwestern corner of this tall building, but it can be tricky to reach. With enough stamina, you can use the air vent to the southeast to glide to the western roof, and then jump on a rope and climb it to the top. Alternatively, you can climb to the Historical Communications Radio Tower and then jump and glide from it to the tape's location.

Tape 52: Journal of a Nightrunner 5

Downtown - Middle (Above Downtown Court Metro Station)

Come out of the Metro Station and go through the door on the left-hand side, then take the rope up to the roof. Go through the gate and head to the southeastern corner of the building to pick up this collectible on a table beside some chairs.

Tape 53: Cpt. Posner Status Reports to Col. Williams 3

Downtown - East (North of Pine Windmill)

Use the nearby air vents to easily reach this GRE tower located beside a Dark Hollow loot source. The recording is on top of an open container.

New Dawn Park Tape Locations

Tape 22: Frank Marwey's Journal 3

New Dawn Park - Middle (Fish Eye Canteen)

The collectible is located on a wooden crate behind a blue couch, on the top floor inside the Fish Eye Canteen.

Tape 26: Frank Marwey's Journal 1

New Dawn Park - Middle (Fish Eye Canteen)

Once Frank's door opens as part of the Main Quest "Broadcast", you can enter his room and pick up his recording, on top of a drawer, beside beer bottles. You can come back later in the story, or after the story has concluded to get this tape if you missed it.

Tape 49: Frank Marwey's Journal 4

New Dawn Park - Middle (Fish Eye Canteen)

This tape is inside the desk beside the piano in the rest area to the left of the Fish Eye Canteen. The area can be accessed by activating the Newalls Crossing Metro Station below the canteen, or completing the "Veronika" Main Quest.

Tape 56: Frank Marwey's Journal 2

New Dawn Park - Middle (Fish Eye Canteen)

Climb to the top of the small Windmill above the western rest area at the Fish Eye Canteen to find this recording sitting inside a box with wine bottles.

Garrison Tape Locations

Tape 23: Villedor Newscast 1

Garrison - South (Garrison Electrical Station)

You can find this Tape after taking the elevator to the control room in Garrison's Electrical Station. It is located to the right of the activation marker.

Tape 27: Tourism Office of Villedor - VNC Tower

Garrison - Middle (VNC Tower)

As soon as entering the lobby as part of the "Broadcast" Main Quest, go to the reception area and look under the computers to find this tape. You can come back and get the recording at any time.

Tape 28: Council of Mankind Session 2

Garrison - Middle (VNC Tower Safe Zone)

Once the "Broadcast" Main Story Quest is completed, there will be an elevator shortcut that Aiden can take to the roof. The tape is on a table inside a GRE trailer located by the Safe Zone on the roof. There is also a powerful Artifact Weapon in the trailer.

Tape 30: Lawan's Mixtape

Garrison - North (Lawan's Old Apartment)

Found during Main Quest “The Shoe” while searching Lawan's old apartment. The mixtape is on a coffee table, beside a radio near a couch.

Tape 37: Journal of a Nightrunner 7

Garrison - Northwest (Rooftop Northwest of Teak Windmill)

The easiest way to gain access to the roof of this building containing the tape is to jump from the VNC tower's roof. After the Main Quest “Broadcast”, an elevator can take Aiden to the building's roof. Jump off and land on top of the building near Military Airdrop THB-G3T. The tape is on top of a crate.

Tape 54: Villedor Newscast 4

Garrison - North (Pumpkin Farm)

This tape is rewarded for completing the "Persons of Interest" Side Quest if the area was assigned to the survivors. If it's the Peacekeepers' territory, the recording is inside the same building found south of the Evacuation Convoy instead.

Tape 55: Villedor Newscast 2

Garrison - West (Roof of Sowa Tower Skyscraper)

Take the elevator in the VNC Tower (Main Quest "Broadcast" must be completed first) and jump off of the western side to the overgrown building with the "Sowa Tower" sign on its side. Enter the top floor and look for the tape on a computer desk.

Lower Dam Ayre Tape Locations

Tape 44: GRE Head Doctor Dr. Katsumi Report 4

Lower Dam Ayre - West (THV Advanced Care)

This tape is found in the same room as the first GRE chest containing an Inhibitor in the GRE Quarantine Building.

Tape 61: Cpt. Posner Status Reports to Col. Williams 4

Lower Dam Ayre - Northwest (Northeast of South Loop Radio Tower)

This rooftop is visited as part of "The Lost Light" Main Quest. If the "Cathedra" Main Quest was done instead, or the collectible was missed, you can gain access to the rooftop again by climbing up the southern side of the building. The tape is inside a locked GRE crate in the middle of the rooftop. Use a lockpick to gain access.

Tape 62: Cpt. Posner Status Reports to Col. Williams 5

Lower Dam Ayre - South (Southeast of South Loop Metro Station)

This recording is found inside a green GRE crate in between two GRE trailers on the southeastern side of an island connected by two bridges. You will have to use a lockpick to gain access to the crate.

The Wharf Tape Locations

Tape 31: Journal of a Nightrunner 6

The Wharf - Northwest (North Loop Radio Tower)

You will need the Grappling Hook Tool to climb the Radio Tower to access this Tape. It is located on top of a wooden crate, beside the Nightrunner’s Hideout generator.

Tape 43: GRE Head Doctor Dr. Katsumi Report 5

The Wharf - Southeast (GRE Experimental Research)

This tape is found in the same room as the first GRE chest containing an Inhibitor in the GRE Quarantine Building.

Tape 46: Unit 404 - Trapped

The Wharf - Northeast (PK Floating Fortress)

You will automatically get this Unit 404 tape as part of the "Wall of Valor: Bad Medicine" Side Quest, which is started at the PK Floating Fortress.

Tape 47: Unit 404 - The Leg Day is Today

The Wharf - Northeast (PK Floating Fortress)

You will automatically get this Unit 404 tape as part of the "Wall of Valor: Deadly Exchange" Side Quest, which is started at the PK Floating Fortress.

Tape 48: Unit 404 - Weakest Link

The Wharf - Northeast (PK Floating Fortress)

You will automatically get this Unit 404 tape as part of the "Wall of Valor: Missing in Action" Side Quest, which is started at the PK Floating Fortress after completing the other Wall of Valor side quests.

Tape 57: For Alice 4

The Wharf - South (Northeast of Fish Eye Canteen)

Climb into the building opposite the Fish Eye Canteen in New Dawn Park to find this tape on top of a wooden cabinet near a collapsed shelf.

Tape 58: For Alice 5

The Wharf - Northeast (PK Floating Fortress)

Go all the way down the stairs of the main area in the PK Floating Fortress, and take a right when you come across the directions. Take the first left at the top of the stairs in the crew's quarters to locate this recording on a table at the back.

Muddy Grounds Tape Locations

Tape 24: Tourism Office of Villedor - Villedor's Castle

Muddy Grounds - North (Wharf Water Tower)

You can pick up this recording at the very top of the Wharf Water Tower, to the left of the wheel used to activate the tower.

Saint Paul Island Tape Locations

Tape 42: GRE Head Doctor Dr. Katsumi Report 6

Saint Paul Island - North (THV-GenMod Development Centre)

This tape is found in the same room as the first GRE chest containing an Inhibitor in the GRE Quarantine Building.

Tape 59: Council of Mankind Session 3

Saint Paul Island - North (North of THV-GenMod Development Center)

This tape is found inside a GRE trailer across the bridge from the GRE Quarantine Building. It's the only accessible trailer in the small area.

Tape 60: Tourism Office of Villedor - Saint Paul Cathedral

Saint Paul Island - Middle (Saint Paul Cathedral)

You will come across this tape naturally as part of the "Cathedral" Main Quest. If you didn't collect it then, or did "The Lost Light" Main Quest instead, you can either glide from a nearby tall building, or climb the church from the southwestern side to get to the northwestern tower containing this tape. The collectible is on a table beside a laptop.

The Observatory Area Tape Locations

Tape 29: Prep for the Next Fall

The Observatory Area - East (Nightrunner's Hideout)

Just past the shallow water between this Observatory area and Garrison is a shack doubling as a Nightrunner's Hideout. The tape is on a shelf at the back.

Tape 50: Cpt. Posner Status Reports to Col. Williams 6

The Observatory Area - South (West of GRE Anomaly C-A-67)

This recording is on a table below a map, inside a GRE trailer to the west of the nearby GRE Anomaly.

Flooded Area Tape Locations

Tape 35: Journal of a Nightrunner 8

Flooded Area - West (Newfound Land Military Relay)

Obtained while climbing the Radio Tower, near some wooden crates with a bow, and arrows. Must have the Grapplehook Tool to get to this location.

Newfound Lost Lands Tape Locations

Tape 36: Council of Mankind Session 1

Newfound Lost Lands - North (Near GRE Anomaly C-A-56)

Go to the rooftops containing the Anomaly, and then enter the trailer on the western roof to pick up this tape located at the back.

Epilogue Tape Locations

Tape 32: Waltz's Chamber Recording 3

Newfound Lost Lands - Southeast (Renegade Stronghold)

Only accessible during the "Now or Never" Main Quest. The tape is in Waltz's room, which is found by taking the elevator down.

Tape 33: Waltz's Chamber Recording 1

Newfound Lost Lands - Southeast (Renegade Stronghold)

Only accessible during Main Quest "Now or Never". After picking up Tape 32, go into the side room of Waltz's research lab. This recording is on a desk, under some files in the corner of the room.

Tape 34: Waltz's Chamber Recording 2

Newfound Lost Lands - Southeast (Renegade Stronghold)

Only accessible during Main Quest "Now or Never". After picking up Tape 33, look beside the bed to locate this collectible.
