This paradoxical statement arises because of 2 reasons. 1.Though the Yantra or Sri Yantra or Sri Chakra Yantra is an ancient subject not much is known about it because of its esoteric nature and the secrecy in practice of the Aghori Vidya (Knowledge) the active ( and genuine) practitioners of the Chakra and Yantra. Therefore whether the ancient Yantras existed or not in unknow. They are mentioned here and there in the holy texts such as Vedas and Ramayana and Mahabharata but little is known from the sparce descriptions and ever lesser known facts about its descriptions. Even less known is the art of building 3 D structures that resemble Yantras From my study of Yantras I have come to the conclusion that the handful of Yanra temples are not suggestive of real yantras but the imagination of local artists or architects or designers none of whom ( as I can comprehend) really knew about what the Yantra was due to thr reasons stated above. When you don’t know what a real yantra is then what are you going to draw and what are you going to build? 2 .After the Beatles in 1960s, Hinduism and Buddhism spread to the wast. The ideas of mandalas as adopted by the monastic Buddhists of Tibet, Sangla, Sikkim,Mongolia and Bhutan were adopted for a lighter style of Mandala study- meditation mandalas. Mandalas are an art form with a religious purpose in Buddhism characterized by complex geometric patterns. The name, mandala, comes from the Sanskrit word for circle and refers to the sense of wholeness created by both circular forms. In Tibet, the mandala is called Khyil-khor, which refers to the center of all creation where a truly awakened being lives, taking the meaning further than the Sanskrit reference. In Buddhism, mandalas represent the ideal form of the universe. The act of creating a mandala represents the transformation of the universe from a reality of suffering to one of enlightenment. While Tibetan Buddhists see the center of the mandala as an awakened being at the center of the universe, the center also represents the beginning of each person's journey toward knowledge, wisdom, and enlightenment. Often, mandalas are used as tools to focus the mind during meditation. The mandala begins with the center, radiating out with symbols and designs as the pattern grows larger. It can be painted, drawn, or even made from colorful sand. Those painted on scrolls are often carried by travelers and pilgrims for a blessing on the road and used a focus for meditation as they journey.
